The Subspace Army attacks them all, but they are saved by Mario, Link, Yoshi, Kirby, and Pit. While Meta Knight and Lucario take this chance to get inside the Halberd, the Ice Climbers fall into the Canyon, where they find themselves with Marth, Lucas, the Pokémon Trainer, and Ike. Just after the battle, the Halberd rams the Great Fox into the mountain. However, they discover the Aura Pokémon Lucario up there, who challenges Meta Knight. The Ice Climbers see this as a challenge, and race him to the top, managing to reach it first. However, they do see Meta Knight climbing past them, trying to get to the Halberd. If the second climber is KO'd, the leading one can still fight, but their attacks are not as powerful as they would be if both are present. The Ice Climbers attack simultaneously, and as they are two characters the player can grab two opponents and hold two items at once. Depending on the alternate costume, the player can control either Popo or Nana, while the other is a computer player that copies their inputs and returns to the player when they are separated. The game has been released in numerous forms including a card set for the e-Reader, a port in the Classic NES Series, an easter egg in Animal Crossing, and a 2-player arcade game called VS Ice Climber. It is also available on the Wii's, 3DS’s and Wii U’s Virtual Console and Nintendo Switch's Online service. They can cooperate on the way up, but for the bonus it is a one-on-one competition. There is also a multiplayer mode which features a head to head competition between Popo and Nana to see who can reach the top first. The main characters are Popo, the boy in the blue parka, and Nana, the girl in the pink parka. There are also Vegetables to collected during bonus stages, awarding bonus points.
Along the way, the player must jump on blocks and clouds while avoiding Topi, Nitpickers, and Polar Bears. The goal of the game is to get the Ice Climbers up to the peak of the mountain where the Condor is. Ice Climber is a game for the Nintendo Entertainment System.
